The Buckman neighborhood is a great jumping-off point for a day of fun exploring Portland. With its countless cafes, restaurants, and coffee shops, you can explore this up-and-coming neighborhood which seems to be right near everything there is do in Portland.
To truly understand Portland is to understand its patchwork of neighborhoods. Each one offers a slice of life which informs you of the city as a whole. It gives you a perspective on why a certain part of town is known for what it is. The Buckman neighborhood has a lot to offer from its beautiful Victorian home, large parks and out-of-this-world eateries.
While some neighborhoods are tucked away far from a visitor’s grasp, the Buckman neighborhood is easily accessible for both city residents and Portland visitors. By hopping across the Morrison Bridge, you will be in the heart of the neighborhood in less than 20 blocks. It also right near the Belmont and Hawthorne districts, which offer more shopping, eating and spacious parks.
If you are looking for a bite to eat, there are options for any budget. Meat Cheese Bread is a perfect lunch stop, with innovative dishes featuring fresh and local farm produce for a low price. If you want a stylish and more upscale meal, the award-winning Nostrana restaurant offers modern and delicious Italian cuisine.
Taking a walk down the streets of Buckman is to see first-hand both the past and present of Portland. Many of the older, historic homes are in various forms of modern upgrades. There are also many of the quaint one-level apartment buildings that are commonly seen around the inner suburbs of Portland.
For sunny days, there are plenty of parks to enjoy. The main park of the neighborhood is Col. Summers Park which is expansive and offers something for everyone. With large green expanses, you can enjoy a picnic even with there are large crowds. For people with a more active lifestyle, there are basketball and tennis courts.
Buckman neighborhood proves that Portland is really just a collection of little hamlets. Buckman gives you a glimpse inside a creative and youthful side of Portland.
