Laughing Planet: Portland’s home for The Sustainable Burrito
Jun 8, 2010
In need of a quick lunch sport? Laughing Planet perfectly fits the bill. This award-winning restaurant not only offers a wholesome meal, but one which is healthy and sustainable too. It is one of the few restaurants that will you fill you up and leave you feeling good about your positive impact on the environment.
Laughing Planet is a successful local business and has expanded to include six locations around Portland with one in Eugune. Each location has its own feel to it, adorned with art and ample kitsch.
If you were to pick one must-see location, it is the EcoTrust building. This location is convenient, offers outdoor and indoor seating, and is housed inside a building which complements their sustainable mission. The EcoTrust location is vibrant and has artful prints of Abraham Lincoln and John Lennon, as well as prints by R. Crumb. If you are dining in, you can relax outside and take it the Pearl District while still being within walking distance of all the major Portland sights.
The idea behind Laughing Planet is to create healthy food that both enriches the customers and is kind on the environment. Their dedication sets them apart from many of the city’s other quick bites. In fact, Laughing Planet won a BEST award by The City of Portland's Office of Sustainability for the sustainable food category.
Laughing Planet specializes in healthy Mexican-style food with a large menu offering options for every diet. You will find on their menu everything from bowls, mission-style burritos and even healthy salads. Their ingredients are fresh and serve as a nice alternative to a chain restaurant.
A recommended meal is their Holy Mole burrito, which consists of pinto beans, brown rice, grilled Draper Valley natural chicken, Tillamook jack cheese, pico de gallo and home-made mole sauce. This tasty treat should be enjoyed with home-made salsa and chips. Laughing Planet's kids menu offers all the favorites, but with more basic flavors and a bargain price. There are also a number of vegetarian options, including a scrumptious grilled vegetable burrito.
Whichever location you choose, Laughing Planet offers a fun and affordable meal. This forward-thinking restaurant offers charm and quirkiness to fashion a unique dining experience.
