Mio Gelato: Cool Off with PDX’s favorite summertime treat

Jul 10, 2010

Gelato is gaining in popularity and starting to rival traditional ice cream as the summertime treat of choice. Mio Gelato serves up this authentic Italian delight and has people lining up to get a taste. Quickly becoming a Portland favorite, Mio Gelato is strategically located around town to be close by no matter what part of town you are in.

With their first shop opening in 2003, Mio Gelato now has four locations across the Portland area. Their Pearl District location and NW 23rd location are on the west side of the river while their Irvington location resides near Irving Park. The recently opened Bridgeport Village location is south of Portland in Tigard, OR.

During Portland’s hottest days, expect a line. While waiting, take a look at the tastefully styled locations. Each one has its own feel, but all of them feature modern styling accented with local art. With free WI-FI too, Mio Gelato is much more than just an ice cream shop. It can be a place to meet friends or catch up on your email.

Mio Gelato strives for an authentic experience and relies on local and seasonal ingredients. They take pride in making sure “each hand-crafted batch of gelato is flavored with the highest quality local and international ingredients – from local Oregon marionberries to Italian chocolate and pistachios.”

When picking out a flavor, take your time. You can sample a few as well as learn how to pronounce the proper, Italian name of each flavor.

In addition to gelato, Mio Gelato also offers lunch dishes such as a panini or salad. Their selection of pizza is impressive and adds to the Italian influence in the restaurant. They also recently added beer and wine with many local selections to choose from. With outdoor seating, you can enjoy the summer weather and have a delicious meal as well.

Whether it is a sunny day or just a sweet treat after work, Mio Gelato makes a great stop. Kids will love the flavors and adults will appreciate this Italian delight flavored with local charm.

HelloPortland Tip: While mostly known for its gelato, Mio Gelato also serves espresso and rivals many of the best coffee shops in town.
