HOTLIPS: A sustainable pizza with fresh, local ingredients
Jul 10, 2010
For a slice of authentic Portland Pizza, HOTLIPS has you covered. From traditional pizzas to more ‘out-there’ concoctions, this hip pizza place has something for everyone. With both a speedy delivery service and a wonderful dine-in atmosphere, this local favorite has become a hit with Portland residents and visitors.
HOTLIPS Pizza is loved by locals because of its commitment to the area's farmers. The restaurant sources nearly all of its ingredients locally. From the wheat which makes the crust to the meat and veggies, you will taste the surrounding Oregon area when having one of their pizzas.
They have been around since 1984 and have a mission “to preserve culture and celebrate humanity through our rich culinary traditions and by joining with others in finding new, sustainable ways of doing business.” Another way the restaurant helps locals is through its dining areas. Art creatively adorns the space and adds a nice flair to the restaurant.
If you are looking for an original experience, try one of their seasonal pies. Combining both familiar and innovative ingredients, make these pizzas something to write home about. While some pizzas may seem like an odd combination, you can be assured that they all taste great. A great aspect of HOTLIPS is that they bottle their own soda. These bottles look good too and can be a small keepsake from your travels.
Each location has its own feel, but they all give off a clean and cool vibe. They have five locations spread around town. While some people may dismiss HOTLIPS as having a “too hip” attitude, their staff is generally friendly and very accommodating.
When ordering a pizza for delivery, make note of their hours and location. They close before many of the other local pizza chains, so if you want it delivered try calling at least 45 minutes before closing time.
HOTLIPS is an alternative to your regular pizza chain. With fresh local ingredients and a Portland-feel, this pizza place has won the hearts of the Rose City.
HelloPortland Tip: Need a bite to eat to before a Portland Beavers or Portland Timbers game? Their 18th and Morrison location makes the perfect pre-game snack.
