Por Que No: PDX's 'Line Around the Block' restaurant
Jul 25, 2010
With large crowds at both locations, Por Que No serves up some of the most pleasing Mexican cuisine in town. Cheap and delicious tacos make Por Que No the perfect sunny day restaurant or a great place to meet friends after work. Por Que No can be a refreshing stop, because of its laid back and easy going atmosphere.
Like many restaurants in Portland, Por Que No uses fresh and local ingredients. They fit it nicely with the attitudes of many Portland residents by relying on a sustainable business plan. The food reflects the varied tastes of their owners who have "traveled from the Pacific Coast of Mexico to the mountains of Oaxaca to share the flavors and the essence of what we found."
Their two locations are on Mississippi Street in northeast Portland and on Hawthorne Blvd. in southeast Portland. Each one has its own vibe, but the northeast location is a good place for your first dining experience. With more outdoor seating and located due south of Mississippi's neighborhood's great shopping district, it can be a perfect jumping off point to a day exploring northeast Portland.
Their home-made tortilla chips along with their salsa and guacamole are a must for any meal. The restaurant can a great stop even if you are looking for a light meal. One or two tacos can be a good afternoon snack or light dinner. If you are in need of heartier meal, the Bryan's bowl will do the trick, coming with everything inside a burrito, but without the tortilla. Their drink menu offers great tasting favorites such as horchata and sangria. They also offering a wide variety of imported beer.
Por Que No embodies the Portland restaurant scene by balancing international cuisine with a healthy dose of local ingredients. Portland visitors should stop in to taste what they are cooking up. From their fish tacos to home-made Sangria, Por Que No is a relaxed restaurant that will leave you understanding what everyone is talking about.
HelloPortland Tip: In the mood for live music? A few blocks down from Por Que No is Mississippi Studios which features many large local and touring bands.
