Deputies and officers fire shots at car theft suspect

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - A Clark County Sheriff's deputy and officers fired shots after a suspect allegedly rammed a deputy's vehicle.

The sheriff's office later said the suspect died at the scene and a deputy was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

KATU-TV in Portland reports that deputies and Vancouver Police were called to the Vancouver neighborhood at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a stolen vehicle in the Orchards area.

Deputies located the stolen vehicle and saw one suspect inside.

The sheriff's office says the suspect rammed the deputy's patrol vehicle and they fired shots.

The Clark County Regional Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. The sheriff's office says a deputy involved in the incident was placed on leave, per protocol.
